Most people are looking for a weight loss shortcut. We get phone calls from people wanting to purchase a pill or supplement that will give them quick weight loss. On such supplement that was touted as the magic elixir was Garcinia Cambogia. Does Garcinia Cambogia cause weight loss? Is it the magic supplement? Before you invest in Garcinia Cambogia you should know the reality about it and weight loss.
What is Garcinia Cambogia?
Garcinia Cambogia is a small, pumpkin-shaped, yellow or greenish fruit that is used in some cases to enhance the culinary experience of a meal. This little fruit is a very good source of hydroxycitric acids (HCA). These acids are found in fruit rinds of several species of Garcinia. One of the isomers, known as (-)-Hydroxycitric acid, is thought to help in weight control.
Garcinia Cambogia and Weight Loss
(-)-Hydroxycitric acid inhibits an enzyme called Citric acid lysase which is required in the synthesis of fatty acids. At least in rats, there is evidence that (-)-Hydroxycitric acid prevented fat storage and suppressed appetite. Although some studies involving Garcinia Cambogia did indicate weight loss, the weight loss was low (2 lbs over 3 months). However, other studies showed no weight loss benefits.
So, should you take Garcinia Cambogia? If you think it is going to be the magic pill, you will be disappointed. At best it may provide a slight increase in weight loss–especially if incorporated on the Achieve Weight Loss lifestyle. If you do take a Garcinia Cambogia supplement use one that has 50-60% HCA’s. Here are a couple of recommendations from our affiliate partner with high levels of HCA’s:
