Three Starting Mindsets for Success

There are three mindset progressions on the road to weight loss success. In this article we will identify the three starting mindsets and why they are important for your success. The first mindset in the right direction is the following:

1. I Want to Do it!

Having this mindset is a step in the right direction, but it won’t result in success! You can’t just say “I want to lose weight” and your weight magically falls off! Yes, the desire has to come first, but it must be followed by action. Simply giving lip-service without follow-through will not give you results! However, success always begins with the desire.

2. How Do I Do it?

It is not enough to want to do something; you must learn how to do it. Unfortunately, many people stop at this step because learning how to do something takes effort, work and time; it takes trial and error.

Learning a sustainable weight loss lifestyle requires effort on your part. You have to watch the videos or attend the classes, fill out the notebook, and journal so your coach can guide you–all of these things take time. If you are not willing to put in a few hours over the course of a month to learn how to make your food work for you, then you will not lose the weight.

3. I’ll Try to Do it!

When I was growing up one of my favorite movies was the Karate Kid. In the movie Mr. Miyagi said to his student Daniel “Don’t try, do.” His advice is worth noting for all that we set out to do: don’t try to start losing weight, start living a sustainable weight loss lifestyle! Being willing to try is an important first step, but it is only a first step. You must move from the “I’ll try” attitude to the next level if you are going to succeed.

Conclusion

As you look at these mindsets you can see the progression. You have to start with the desire to lose the weight, follow-up with that desire by making the investment to learn how to lose your weight, and finally you have to be willing to try to put into practice what you are learning.

These three mindsets will not result in weight loss, but they are a good start. The next two ways of thinking will result in short-term weight loss and long-term sustainable weight loss. We will discuss the two success weight loss mindsets in an upcoming blog.
