Mindsets Keeping You from Success

I’m sure you have heard of “Climbing the Ladder to Success” as it applies to working your way up in a business. The goal of climbing the ladder is to get more money, a more powerful position or an easier lifestyle. However, climbing the Ladder to Success does not happen automatically—if it did everyone would be at the top!

There are some people who will never climb the Ladder to Success—and that includes losing their weight. Those in this group have a mindset which prevents them from succeeding in their weight loss. Let me outline the two mindsets of failure:

1. I Won’t Do it!

This is the mindset of a person who is stuck in his or her ways. They simply will not make any effort. They may complain about their deteriorating health or the struggle for mobility; yet they love their routine too much to do any differently. If you are such a person, you might as well put this e-book down! However, I’d like to think that you downloaded this e-book because you want to change.

2. I Can’t Do it!

Individuals with this mindset make excuses. Believe me, there are plenty of excuses for not losing weight such as:

  • I’m too busy
  • We eat out all the time
  • I have a spouse and kids/grandkids
  • Healthier food is too expensive
  • I like sweets too much
  • I’m not sure I’ll fit in with my friends if I lose weight
  • I don’t have the time to learn about food
  • I have a medical condition

    These two mindsets are deadly; they result in inaction. No one with these mindsets succeeds in weight loss or in anything else about which they have these attitudes.


    If you find yourself saying “I Won’t Do it!” ask yourself “Why Won’t I?”. What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of making a change to your eating habits or patterns? Are you afraid that if you lose the weight you won’t be able to keep it off? Are you afraid someone may be offended or hurt by your weight loss because they struggle with weight loss? Confront the reason you won’t start on a weight loss journey!

    If you find yourself saying “I Can’t Do it!” ask yourself “Why Can’t I?”. Why can’t you make any changes to your diet or eating patterns? Why can’t you take the time to educate yourself about how to make your food work for you? Be honest with yourself about why you want to stay overweight. Be realistic with yourself about why you would rather suffer from potential weight-related bad health than to start a sustainable weight loss journey. If you can’t be honest with yourself then you will not start on a new path resulting in a healthier, happier you!
