Three Attitudes for Successful Weight Loss

Why is it that some people are successful in losing weight while others cannot seem to do it? How can some people not only lose their weight but also maintain their weight loss for life? Since weight loss is not rocket science why are so few successful at it?

One of the key indicators for success is a person’s attitude. Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar used to say “Your Attitude, not your aptitude will determine your altitude.”  The idea is that attitude is a key to your success. It doesn’t matter how much you know, if you have the wrong attitude you will fail to achieve your goal. You can own many weight loss book and be an expert in nutrition, but if you have a bad attitude about your ability to lose the weight you will not succeed!

What are the attitudes you need for weight loss success (and success at most everything else!)? Here are three attitudes for weight loss:

  1. The “I Can” attitude. When you start your day saying “I can’t” the reality is YOU WON’T! Be honest with yourself. Whenever you say “I can’t” what you are really saying is “I won’t”. You can make each day a Healthy Day! You can say “no” to those foods which will derail your weight loss! You are in charge of you!
  2. The “I Will” attitude. Each day not only tell yourself “I can” make it a Healthy Day, but solidify your resolve by telling yourself “I will” make it a Healthy Day. You may have to do this constantly throughout the day. When you go out to eat and you are having a Healthy Day, tell yourself “I will make this a healthy meal” before you walk into the restaurant. Tell yourself “I will” make a choice that will continue to result in my weight loss.
  3. The “I Did” attitude. When you have a healthy meal, which we teach you how to do at Achieve Weight Loss, look back and say “I did it.” Celebrate the victories–no matter how small. In fact, if you have a Junk Day (planned or unplanned) look back on the positives of the day. In other words, did you minimize your Junk Day? If so, how did you do it? Congratulate yourself on not totally derailing yourself.

Notice that the focus of these three winning attitudes is “I”.  You are the only one who can have a successful weight loss attitude.
